NS Snowboard is proud to announce the addition of the All In For Kai Award. This $1000 award is in the loving memory of Kai Matthews.

Kai grew up within the NS Snowboard community as a member of our Provincial Freestyle Team and was an incredibly dedicated and accomplished athlete. He competed at Canada Snowboard Nationals in 2016, 2017 and 2018, represented Team Nova Scotia at the 2019 Canada Winter Games and was a recipient of the 2017 Joel Boylan Award.

On June 1, 2021, at the age of 19, Kai tragically passed away after contracting meningitis B.

Kai will be remembered by his NS Snowboard friends and teammates as a kind soul and a passionate snowboarder who had a natural athletic ability and a quiet confidence. He was an ‘all-in’ athlete no matter what sport he played in life.

Kai was also selfless in that he was just as happy to see one of his teammates win an event rather than himself. He truly loved snowboarding as a sport and as a lifestyle.

The All In For Kai Award is presented to a local snowboarder who displays an ‘all-in’ spirit. It is open to any male or female freestyle snowboarder at the provincial level who is a member of Nova Scotia Snowboard.

To apply for this award, athletes are to submit a statement of how you are an ‘all-in’ snowboarder to alpinens@sportnovascotia.ca, along with their name, contact info, by end of day on July 13th, 2022.

In addition to the All In For Kai Award, NS Snowboard is now accepting nominations for the following Open Awards:
