Joel Boylan Award

Joel Boylan was one of those riders that didn’t say much, but he didn’t have to, he let his riding speak for itself.

Joel was a very talented and powerful snowboarder who was respected and idolized by many. After winning the 2004 Honda Tour of Champions title for halfpipe he was invited to travel with the national snowboard team to Europe, competing on the World Cup circuit in 2005. Joel was a great role model and ambassador for snowboarding and quickly became a legend at his local hill, Martock.

On May 7, 2005, at the age of 19, Joel passed away. This was and always will be a great loss for the snowboard community in Nova Scotia. The Joel Boylan award was created to honor and remember one of the most distinguished riders in this province.

The Joel Boylan Award is presented to a local snowboarder who displays a positive attitude, a need for funding and a promising future in the sport. This award is available to any freestyle athlete at the provincial level who is a member of Nova Scotia Snowboard and in good standing with Canada Snowboard. With only one bursary awarded annually, both male and female athletes are encouraged to apply.
